WASHINGTON — Congresswomen Cathy McMorris Rodgers announced she will not be running for re-election in November.

The Republican congresswoman spent almost 20 years in the House.

“After much prayer and reflection, I’ve decided the time has come to serve the people of Eastern Washington in new ways,” McMorris Rodgers said in a statement. “I will not be running for re-election to the People’s House.”

In her statement, she touted her work on the ABLE Act, which helped people with disabilities like McMorris Rodgers’ son Cole create a tax-free savings account, as one of her greatest accomplishments.

She also emphasized that her family has been the greatest blessing in her life. Her husband Brian and three children Cole, Grace and Brynn have been supporting her and her efforts to represent the people of Eastern Washington.

She did not indicate what she would be moving onto following her role but is hopeful for what is next ending her statement with “the best is yet to come.”
