SPOKANE, Wash. – As all the presents under the Christmas tree have been opened, the City of Spokane’s Solid Waste Collection Department is offering free curbside Christmas tree pick-up!

As the decorations and lights are off your tree, you can place it at least three feet away from the reuse and recycle carts on their regularly scheduled garbage pick-up days! If you have artificial or flocked trees, those will not be accepted during this service.

This pick-up will begin on Jan. 2 and continue through Jan. 12!

The City will accept trees up to six feet tall, if they are taller than that they ask residents to cut them in half. Any loose branches should be bundled next to the tree and not exceed six feet in length.

All trees collected by the Solid Waste Collection Department will be chipped and composed.

If you miss curbside pickup or want your tree gone now, you can take your tree to any of these locations for disposal:

Waste-to-Energy Facility, 2900 S. Geiger Blvd. Open 7: 30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.Spokane Valley Transfer Station, 3941 N. Sullivan Road. Open 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends.North County Transfer Station, 22123 Elk-Chattaroy Road. Open 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends.

Again, if you take your tree to any of these facilities, make sure that they don’t exceed six feet in height.

Another big part of cleanup during the holidays is holiday packaging material. All of this is recyclable and can go into blue recycling carts! Gift wrap, except metallic foil paper or cellophane, is recyclable along with cardboard boxes and wrapping paper rolls.

Other items like styrofoam, plastic bags, plastic wrap, gift bags and tissue paper should go in the brown refuse carts.

As we approach New Years Day, the City of Spokane garbage pickup and curbside recycling will be a day late that week! Beginning in 2024, curbside services need to be put out by 6 a.m.
