CHELAN, Wash. — Chelan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a possible bomb threat at Morgen Owings Elementary School Monday morning that was later found not credible.

On Jan. 22 around 8:10 a.m., Chelan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a bomb on a playground at Morgen Owings Elementary School.

According to Rivercom dispatchers, Chelan School District received a report that someone had called the school claiming that there was a bomb on the playground and if they did not receive a large sum of money the bomb “would go off at a specific time.”

Around the same time deputies responded to the school, children were arriving due to a late start. Children that began arriving were directed to the Community Gym as law enforcement began investigating.

Further information gathered found that the threat was not credible, but out of an abundance of caution, deputies did an extensive search of the playground and the building itself.

Around 10 a.m., the school was clear and returned to normal operations.

This incident is still under investigation to determine the identity of the person that made the call.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. Check back for updates.
