SPOKANE, Wash – Thanksgiving travel at the Spokane International Airport (GEG) could break a record this year.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) anticipates around 30,000 passengers to depart GEG just this week.

The four busiest days at GEG are projected to be:

Tuesday, Nov. 21Wednesday, Nov. 22Sunday, Nov. 26Monday, Nov. 27.

6,300 travelers are expected to depart on Tuesday, 7,400 on Wednesday, 7,400 on Sunday and 6,500 on Monday.

Nationally, TSA is projecting to screen 30 million people at airports across the country.

“It will be the busiest Thanksgiving travel period that TSA has ever experienced since our inception in 2001,” Lorie Dankers, a TSA spokesperson, said.

The busiest times at GEG will be:

4 a.m. to 7 a.m.9 a.m. to 1 p.m.2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“You’re going to have to arrive early at the airport. You’re going to need to arrive prepared,” Dankers said.

Even though airports across the country will see record numbers for holiday travel, Dankers said everything is going well.

“I can tell you that so far the holiday travel season since last Thursday has gone very smoothly,” Dankers said.
