SPOKANE, Wash. — A billboard along Sullivan Road in Spokane Valley is generating attention for advertising “Leaving MAGA,” a nonprofit that supports people distancing themselves from President Donald Trump.
Rich Logis, who founded the organization after being a Trump supporter himself, believes more MAGA supporters are reaching a breaking point.
“I think that more and more MAGA supporters are starting to feel that there’s one why or one there’s one betrayal too many, and it’s causing them to question if this movement any longer comports with their values,” Logis said.
Logis cites cost of living concerns, immigration policies and the Epstein files as some reasons people are questioning the movement. He started the support group to provide community for those reconsidering their political allegiances.
“If someone is going to leave, though, they need a place to go, and if they don’t have a place to go, even if they know they should leave, they probably won’t because it’s more comfortable to stay put,” Logis said.
The billboard in Spokane Valley was paid for by a group of private citizens, but the organization is placing similar billboards nationwide. Logis claims the Spokane Valley sign has increased website traffic.
However, Rob Linebarger, chair of the Spokane County GOP, disputes that Trump’s support is weakening.
“MAGA will be here. It was here long before Donald Trump. He just came up with the acronym, made it famous. It’ll be here long after Donald Trump. And, so if you’re abandoning MAGA, then why not just leave the country?” Linebarger said.
Linebarger maintains the Republican Party is gaining supporters, especially among younger people.
“We are not, you know, person centric. Our vision and mission is faith, family and freedom. And I like to say in that order,” Linebarger said.
Both men agree that open dialogue between people with different beliefs is essential for moving forward.
