HAYDEN, Idaho — Students at Hayden Meadows Elementary School are rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty as they prepare for their annual Spring Plant Sale.
Every student at the school, from kindergarten through fifth grade, plays a role in the greenhouse program.
“It has been really nice to being in here and help Mr. Harvey plant,” said student Everett Talbot.
Another student, Emary Tommerup, expressed enthusiasm for the program’s connection to family traditions. “I really love to grow here in the garden. Especially, because we go to the sale and with my mom. It is before mothers day and we get to pick out plants and then we get to grow them in the garden.”
The greenhouse program extends beyond education, serving as a vehicle for community service throughout the year. Students help local organizations and donate produce to a local food bank.
The annual Spring Plant Sale, scheduled for Saturday, May 9th, serves as the main fundraiser that keeps the greenhouse program operational. The sale takes place at the school, located at 900 East Hayden Avenue.
“Our annual Spring Plant Sale, along with the generous support of the Coeur d’Alene Garden Club and private donors, helps sustain this incredible program year after year,” district officials noted. “It’s more than a sale — it’s a living classroom growing knowledge, confidence, and community.”
