Deer Park sees rapid population growth with new grocery store construction

DEER PARK, Wash. — Construction has begun on a new grocery store in Deer Park that officials say signals the city’s booming population growth.

The city’s population has grown nearly 20 percent since 2019, reaching over 5,000 people for the first time in its history.

“It’s been growing pretty rapidly. We just surpassed that 5,000 population last year that takes us out of being classified as a small city to where we are more of an urban city,” said Dan Pratt, Deer Park Community Development Director.

Two major construction projects are underway to accommodate the expansion: the new grocery store and an industrial complex.

“We’ve had very rapid residential growth over the last five years, and it continues to grow, which, in turn, our infrastructure, especially out in our industrial park, it’s able to support all of this additional growth, so we are doing pretty good,” Pratt said.

The grocery store addresses a community need and reflects the city’s evolution.

“The new grocery store, that’s something that has been in pretty high demand in the community. It’ll be good for the community. As the industrial complex continues to grow, that’ll bring jobs and that’ll bring younger families,” Pratt explained.

The grocery store is scheduled to open in the fall, while the industrial complex is expected to begin operations next year.
