Bernie Sanders proposes bill to reduce to a four-day work week

Senator Bernie Sanders is backing a bill hoping to reduce the standard 40-hour work week most American’s follow.

The bill is called the “thirty-two-hour work week act” and would cut America’s work hours by one full 8-hour workday.

This would essentially grant a three-day weekend every week. The bill if passed would be implemented slowly over time to allow companies to prepare for the shift.

In a hearing on Thursday Sanders said “So many people are going to work exhausted, physically and mentally. – To suggest that we have to maintain what we put into place 84 years ago does not make a lot of sense.”

The 32-hour work week would reduce hours but Sanders says that pay will remain the same.

In a statement he says “Today, American workers are over 400 percent more productive than they were in the 1940s. And yet, millions of Americans are working longer hours for lower wages than they were decades ago. That has got to change.”
