COLBERT, Wash. — No suspect was arrested after deputies with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office spent a couple hours Wednesday evening searching for one.

According to a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a call for an argument. When they arrived, a man involved in the argument took off. He had warrants out for other charges, but none for the events of Wednesday night.

Deputies used drones and K9s searching for the man and instructed neighbors in the area to stay indoors. In addition to loudspeaker instructions, some neighbors said they got alerts on their phones.

Some neighbors also said they didn’t get updates that police activity wrapped up, leaving them unclear on whether or not they could leave their homes.

“I do think it wouldn’t be nice in these situations if they would put a statement out, so everybody didn’t feel weird when going to bed at night,” one woman who asked to remain anonymous said. “Because that was the thing that was online was like should we be locking our doors, checking our properties and they never really said anything.”

The sheriff’s office spokesperson said the suspect’s warrants were from out of the county and were for nonviolent crimes like theft.
