SPOKANE, Wash. — Another section of the North Spokane Corridor is set to open on Nov. 16. After four years, Wellesley Avenue will reopen in the Hillyard Area!

This new section will open the next drivable link from the Freya to Wellesley Avenue interchange, adding an additional 1.5 miles of new freeway.

There will be a ribbon cutting held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 16 to celebrate this new and highly anticipated interchange at Wellesley Avenue. This new addition is part of the Spokane River to Columbia project.

“Opening the next section of the North Spokane Corridor is years in the making,” said Region Administrator Todd Trepanier. “Opening to Wellesley Avenue now puts us at over 70% of the entire corridor completed and our sights on the finish line, Interstate 90.”

The public is invited to this ceremony to celebrate with local, state and federal officials from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Even though this adds an additional 1.5 miles, there is still a 5.5 mile corridor that needs to be completed.

WSDOT has broke ground at the Spokane River Crossing in June. This project will connect the Wellesley Avenue project with the Sprague Avenue to Spokane River – Phase 1 project.

Then, phase two and three will connect the highway from Sprague Avenue to Mission Avenue and create a half interchange at State Route 290/Trent Avenue. This construction is set to start in 2024 and the I-90 connection will begin in 2026.

It is estimated that all projects will be completed by 2030.
