Active weather Wednesday with rain and snow

A cold front brings rain, snow, and more gusty winds today, followed by some cold temperatures for the next two nights.

Plan Your Wednesday

Wednesday starts with rain and mountain snow as a cold front moves through. Highs will reach the 40s and 50s. Expect westerly winds between 10 to 25 mph with gusts hitting 30 to 40 mph on occasion. As colder air seeps in behind the cold front, snow and mixed precipitation will start mixing in with rain. Except for the highest valleys in the central Idaho Panhandle, any snow is unlikely to stick. Mountain passes however, will see snowy, icy, and difficult travel conditions.

As skies clear Wednesday Night, a Freeze Warning takes effect for the Columbia Basin as lows dip between 29 and 34 degrees. Lows will fall to the 20s across the greater Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area.

What We’re Tracking

Some spotty winter mix showers will appear Thursday afternoon, but other time periods will be dry to wrap up this week. Cold conditions continue Thursday Night into Friday Morning with lows again falling into the upper 20s to mid 30s. High temperatures will stay below average, ranging from the 50s to the lower 60s. A warming trend now looks likely during the weekend, with highs in the 70s possible early next week.
