DEER PARK, Wash. – An 8-year-old is dead after a shooting in Deer Park Thursday night.
On Sept. 29 just after 9:30 p.m., EMS and deputies from Spokane County Sherriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting on east Eloika Lake Rd. On scene, an 8-year-old was found shot. Despite lifesaving efforts, attempts to revive the victim failed. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the home at the time of the incident were an adult and four children, aged 5 to 14. Initial investigation showed the kids had found a handgun, which discharged at some point, fatally striking the 8-year-old.
The investigation remains in the early stages, but detectives believe the shooting was a tragic accident at this time.
