SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Three people with the Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) revived a Letter of Commendation for helping save the life of a driver trapped in a fiery crash.

SVFD Out of Class Captain Scott Niebuhr, Engineer Max Clutter and Firefighter Kris Miller received the letter on March 20.

On Aug. 4, 2023, SVFD crews responded to the report of a crash near Plante’s Ferry Park. SVFD said the driver was trapped in their car that had rolled and was now on fire.

SFVD knocked down the fire and rescued the 29-year-old driver within three minutes of arriving. The driver was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

“These actions exemplify the mission of the fire service and embody the values and purpose of the Spokane Valley Fire Department,” said SVFD Battalion Chief Matt Jorgensen.
