1 killed in rollover crash near Spokane International Airport

SPOKANE, Wash. – A man was charged with vehicular manslaughter after a two-car collision near Spokane International Airport left one woman dead and another injured on Sunday night.

According to Washington State Patrol, the crash happened just before 9 p.m. on Sept. 24 at milepost 274 near Thomas Mallon Rd. A 23-year-old from Spokane was driving eastbound on I-90 when he moved into the neighboring lane, colliding with the rear of 2014 Kia. The impact caused the Kia to roll, stopping on its side on Westbow Rd.

Inside the Kia were four people from Redding, California, including the 23-year-old driver, a 2-year-old boy, a 4-year-old boy, and a 32-year-old woman. All four were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The two boys were not injured but were taken to a nearby hospital, where the driver was sent for her injuries. The 32-year-old woman died at the scene.

The man was not injured in the crash. It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were involved, but investigators determined speed was the cause of the crash. He has been charged with vehicular homicide.

The righthand lane on eastbound I-90 was closed overnight while crews worked the scene, reopening just after 3 a.m. on Monday.
