SELKIRK, Idaho — One person is dead, and another is injured after an avalanche on the southern end Selkirk mountains.

According to a news release from the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center, law enforcement received a call on March 1 about people injured from an avalanche while snowmobiling near the Pack River Drainage. Boundary County Sheriff’s Office and Boundary County Search and Rescue located one survivor and found another victim dead.

Due to the high avalanche danger and strong winter weather, Search and Rescue has delayed the mission but will resume as soon as possible. The name of the victim has not been released yet.

Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center asks everyone to avoid the Fault Lake trail.

This is an ongoing investigation and will be updated as soon as more information is available.
