SPOKANE, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol urges people not to “push their luck” this St. Patrick’s Day and avoid driving under the influence.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), St. Patrick’s Day is one of the deadliest days to drive in the United States. With alcoholic beverages playing a significant role in the celebrations, it is crucial to plan ahead to avoid being a danger to yourself and others.According to a Facebook post from WSP, officers have made about 2,250 impaired driver arrests so far in 2024. To keep the roads safe during the holiday, everyone can help by planning a safe drive by having a sober friend drive, rideshare, or take a taxi to get home safely.
