SPOKANE COUNTY- WSDOT snowplow crews worked tirelessly Friday to clear snow-covered roads throughout Eastern Washington.

WSDOT is working to provide 24-hour coverage through the winter conditions.

NonStop Local road along with snowplow driver Kent Rietmeier on his route between Spokane and Fish Trap.

Rietmeier started his shift Friday morning at 3 a.m.

“It started snowing again. It’s [I-90] turned snow covered, and ice,” Rietmeier said.

The heavy snow on Friday covered the crews’ progress on I-90.

There were multiple accidents and slide-offs in the Spokane area of I-90.

Rietmeier told NonStop Local that one of the biggest hazards snowplow crews face is cars getting too close to their plow trucks. Sometimes, cars hit the trucks.

“They just need to slow down and give us the space to make the roads safe for them,” Rietmeier said.

This is Rietmeier’s 20th winter as a snowplow driver.

“I’ve always driven trucks. I’ve always farmed, [but] I’ve gotten out of that. Got into this. I just enjoy the larger trucks and helping people,” Rietmeier said.
