CHELAN, Wash. – The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office responded to two women snowmobiling who fell down an embankment, killing one.
A RiverCom dispatch report came in on Feb. 22 around 2:00 p.m. stating that two women had contacted the snowmobile rental company, reporting they were both injured.
Chelan County Sheriff’s Office and Fire District 3 responded to the report, and as more details came in about the injuries, Airlift Northwest was called.
Responders arrived on the scene around 2:45 and treated and prepared both women for air transport.
The 51-year-old rider had significant injuries from sliding under a downed tree that struck her in the chest and leg. The 14-year-old rider also had leg injuries.
Deputies determined that both women were riding on the same snowmobile.
Rescuers made attempts to save both women, but the 51-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The women were from the Seattle area.
