SPOKANE, Wash. — The woman found dead in a field near Spokane’s Minnehaha Park on Wednesday has been identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

65-year-old Carol Streit was found dead near the 4500 block of East Buckey Avenue on Dec. 13 around 4:05 p.m. At this time, the Medical Examiner has not released her cause and manner of death.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Streit was found dead in a field from injuries believed to have been caused by a dog that was later found at the scene.

The dog was unleashed and did show some protective and aggressive behavior as the deputies and medical personnel got close to the woman.

As medical personnel were able to assess the Streit’s condition, they unfortunately pronounced her dead at the scene.

Based on initial information, Streit appeared to be lying in that field for a long amount of time. On her body, medical personnel saw wounds to her upper extremities that deputies believe that the dog was the cause of her wound, which has not yet been confirmed by law enforcement.

The dog is currently being held at SCRAPS and will remain impounded throughout the investigation.

This is an ongoing investigation. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
