Woman arrested for attempting to run over child cyclist, trying to enter stranger’s home

CHENEY, Wash. — A 56-year-old woman faces multiple charges after attempting to hit a child cyclist and later trying to enter a stranger’s home while under the influence, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrested Wendy A. Clemente on April 28 following two incidents within 25 minutes of each other. She was booked on first-degree assault (attempted), DUI and first-degree criminal trespass charges.

At approximately 6:05 p.m. near the intersection of South Fruitvale Road and January Drive, Clemente drove her silver Ford Focus onto the sidewalk and attempted to hit a child riding a bike before chasing the child, deputies said. The juvenile was not injured.

Deputies reviewed cellphone video and began searching for Clemente, according to the sheriff’s office.

At 6:30 p.m., deputies received a burglary report one mile away near the intersection of West Melville Road and South Hayford Road. The homeowner watched through his security system as a suspect tried door handles, authorities said.

Deputies found Clemente and her vehicle in the victim’s driveway and arrested her.

When questioned, Clemente said she was looking for dogs for her pet to socialize with and noticed the victim’s dogs but denied entering the residence, according to deputies.

“When asked, she did not remember the incident on S. Fruitvale Road,” according to the sheriff’s office report.

Clemente initially denied drinking but later admitted to consuming alcohol, authorities said. She resisted arrest and tried to kick a deputy.

Authorities obtained a search warrant for a blood sample. Test results were not immediately available.

Clemente appeared in court the following day and was released on her own recognizance, court records show.
