SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane police are investigating a potential murder-suicide after finding a mother and her two children dead in their home this morning in Northwest Spokane.
Just before midnight, police received a call to the 2600 block of west Woodside Avenue in Northwest Spokane. The caller was the husband who said he came home to find his wife and two children dead.
As SPD arrived on scene, they found three bodies and identified that the two children were both under the age of 12. They also released that there were pets found dead inside the home as well.
The two children were former Balboa students but were currently being homeschooled. The Balboa Elementary School principal released a statement to families and staff stating,
“It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of two former Balboa students. They were being currently homeschooled. We can’t share specifics about the incident right now, but many of our students, families and staff are deeply impacted by this loss. Our SPS Crisis Response Team will be available to meet the emotional needs of staff and students. We may have additional counselors available as well… Students, families and staff are encouraged to process through their emotions and think of ways to support themselves and each other. We will continue our established routines to provide as much stability as possible for students.”
At this time, Major Crimes Unit is on scene and begin to investigate this incident. Initial information indicates that that this was a potential murder-suicide.
The mother is said to be the suspected killer in this incident, SPD has no other suspects at this time.
The identity of the mother and her children will be released at a later date by the Spokane Medical Examiner’s Office.
As investigators stay on scene, Woodside and Lindeke to Woodside and Alberta has been reopened to normal traffic.
