SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Multiple local agencies are teaming up to host Wildfire Ready Neighbors to prepare Spokane Valley residents for wildfire season.

Wildfire Ready Neighbors is a program in which local fire departments, in collaboration with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR), offer free information and resources on how to prepare your home for wildfire season.

On March 19, the Spokane Valley Fire Department, Spokane County Fire District 8 and DNR will host Wildfire Ready Neighbors. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church parking lot.

Two demonstrations will be shown. The first is an ember house demonstration, in which a scaled-down home will showcase different ways a fire can spark when a home is unprepared. The second is a home assessment demonstration, where a Spokane Valley resident will participate in a Wildfire Ready Home Visit and demonstrate steps residents can take to help prepare their homes.

“Last August, the Gray Fire swept through Spokane County, spurring evacuations, burning more than 200 structures, and ultimately scorching 10,000 acres. With every wildfire that burns, the need to prepare becomes more pressing. Knowing where to start is another story,” Angie Requena with All About the Good said.
