Washington State Patrol trooper killed in line of duty after crash near Marysville

MARYSVILLE, Wash. – A Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper died in the line of duty after they were struck by a car near Marysville early Saturday morning.

According to WSP, Christopher M. Gadd, 27, of Pasco, was killed in a crash just before 3 a.m. on March 2. WSP confirmed a speeding driver crashed into the trooper on Interstate 5 near milepost 203.

All southbound lanes are blocked while law enforcement and first responders remain at the scene. You are asked to avoid the area.

Gadd served for the Washington State Patrol for two and a half years, starting Sept. 16, 2021. Gadd was on patrol searching for DUI drivers when he was hit and killed.

WSP said Gadd leaves behind his wife and his two-year-old daughter.

This is the 33rd line of duty death for the WSP.

This incident remains under investigation.
