WALLA WALLA, Wash.- Walla Walla County has informed the public of several warming center openings following snowfall and lowered temperatures across the region.

In a statement posted on their website and shared on social media, the Walla Walla Department of Community Health informed those in need of shelter of several options for keeping warm over the next two days.

The First Congregational Church will provide heat and shelter over the nights of Feb. 15 and Feb. 16.

The department invited unsheltered residents of the community to seek warmth at the Walla Walla Public Library or to consult a local shelter during the day.

According to the Walla Walla Alliance for the Homeless, there were 221 unhoused residents of the county in 2021. A 2010 National Coalition for the Homeless report states that 700 people die of hyperthermia annually due to being unable to access shelter.
