PINEHURST, Idaho — A local boy is competing to sing the National Anthem at this years National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

6-year-old Christopher Sverdsten has been singing for the past few years. He found his passion from his father, Chris, who performs in a local band called Sverwood.

Christopher has made it to the top 8 in this competition. He’s the only child competing, amongst other adults from across the country.

The Silver Valley boy said he watches his competition. “I want to see if I think they’re actually better, but no,” Christopher said on Monday while laughing.

Christopher said he learned to sing from his father. He can also play the guitar, but still needs some practice, Christopher said.

The young musician started singing the National Anthem at a home game in Kellogg. Since then, he’s sung alongside his father at their performances, at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds, and even at the Idaho State Wrestling Tournament in Nampa, ID, which brought in 10,000 people.

The 1st grader certainly has the National Anthem down, but says he wants to learn more.

“My dad needs to teach me more tunes,” Christopher said while looking at his father. “I know buddy,” said Chris.
