LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Republican U.S. Rep. Steve Womack hopes to fend off a longshot challenge from a state legislator in the GOP primary in Arkansas. Womack is running against state Sen. Clint Penzo in the primary for the 3rd Congressional District. Womack was first elected to the seat in 2010 and is a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee. Womack has the backing of the state’s top Republicans and has raised far more money than Penzo. Penzo has tried portraying the incubment lawmaker as not conservative enough for the heavily Republican district.
