US-2 and US-95 Highway resurfacing project set to commence in late May

BOUNDARY COUNTY, Idaho—The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is set to commence a resurfacing project this month, starting from its junction with U.S. Highway 95 and extending eastward to the Montana state line.

The project, scheduled to kick off on May 28, aims to introduce a smooth new surface to enhance safety and the overall driving experience.

ITD has announced that crews will initiate the project at the junction and progress eastward throughout the fall, conducting work during both daytime and nighttime hours.

Consequently, traffic will be restricted to a single lane. The department has also disclosed plans to implement a car pilot system to guide alternating lanes of traffic through the active work zone.

Drivers should anticipate travel delays ranging from 15 to 30 minutes and are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.

Throughout the project, crews will grind down the top layer of asphalt and replace the paved surface to address deficiencies and soft spots from US-95 to the Moyie Bridge.

Beyond the Moyie Bridge, a more extensive restructuring process will take place, involving milling down through the highway’s base layer to reconstruct the road base and driving surface fully.

“We pulverize the existing asphalt, mix in cement to help stabilize and strengthen the mixture to use as a base, and then we pave over top of that,” Project Manager Megan Koski said.

Furthermore, the Port of Entry station at Three Mile Junction will undergo reconstruction. As the asphalt is reconstructed at its current location, intermittent temporary service interruptions are expected. Alternatively, people may contact the Huetter Port of Entry for permits, registrations, or inquiries at (208) 769-1551.

ITD encourages travelers to utilize the Idaho 511 system for updated traffic impacts throughout the construction season.
