SPOKANE, Wash. — A 25-year-old Spokane man allegedly told police he shot his girlfriend but insisted it was self-defense, according to court documents. On Thursday, prosecutors decided to not pursue charges against him for now.
According to court documents, early Saturday morning a Spokane police officer was at the Sacred Heart Emergency Room when a man, later identified as Tucker Mosley entered the ER and said his girlfriend, 21-year-old Shareya Rodriguez-Quarles, had been shot.
The officer, who was there on a different call, requested more police units.
The documents state when officers asked Mosely what happened, he allegedly told them that his girlfriend was drunk and walking around their Browne’s Addition neighborhood. Mosley told police he was concerned about her safety walking around without a phone, so that’s why he walked near her. He admitted the two of them have had prior domestic violence situations.
According to court documents, Mosley said his girlfriend became angry because she believed he was cheating on her. He claimed at one point, she came at him with a knife. Mosley said he warned Rodriguez-Quarles that he had his gun. Mosley told police when she continued to run at him with the knife, that he shot her. He then drove her to the hospital.
According to investigators, Mosley returned with police to the location of where he claimed to have shot the woman in self-defense. A bullet casing was recovered, but detectives were unable to locate the knife Mosley claimed his girlfriend was holding.
According to court documents, Mosley’s account of what happened does not match what cameras in the neighborhood recorded. Investigators say cameras show Mosley was not in a rush to take his girlfriend to the hospital, and he also lied about having more guns in his house.
Mosley was faces a 2nd degree murder chare, but prosecutors decided to not pursue those charges right now and he was released from jail.
