MOSCOW, Idaho – University of Idaho volleyball coach Chris Gonzalez has been placed on administrative leave three months after bullying and physical abuse allegations against him were made public.

Gonzalez was accused of mistreating team members by several student athletes, which triggered an international investigation in Nov. 2023 according to the university.

University of Idaho confirmed on Wednesday that Gonzalez has been placed on administrative leave due to the allegations. A university representative emphasized that the concerns are not just legal but also concern team culture.

“We will continue to provide resources and support to our student-athletes throughout the conclusion of this process as well as after,” the representative said.

The investigation is projected to end in the next month at which point President C. Scott Green and university leadership will decide whether Gonzalez’s employment at the university will continue.
