SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Two people were arrested for a burglary that led to a SWAT standoff east of Liberty Lake on Saturday morning.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, the burglary was reported at about 8:15 a.m. on Saturday at a home on North Chase Lane.
The caller said the neighbor was not home and no one was supposed to be at the home. He identified one person as 36-year-old Thomas J. Warrington and a second as an adult woman.
When deputies arrived, they saw a car parked in the driveway of the home. The Sheriff’s Office says Warrington, a convicted felon, had several warrants for his arrest.
Just before 9 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office says a woman, 35-year-old Melissa F. Sherbinow, exited the home and was detained. Sherbinow claimed to live at the home and said she had permission to be there.
The Sheriff’s Office says deputies spoke with the victim, who said Sherbinow had not lived there since last year and she did not have permission to be there.
Sherbinow was arrested and booked into Spokane County Jail for burglary, rendering criminal assistance and making false statements to law enforcements.
Knowing Warrington was inside the home with possible guns, the Sheriff’s Office worked to get a search warrant of the property and asked the SWAT Team to help.
At around 1 p.m. on Saturday, Warrington came out of the front door and was safely arrested.
He was booked into Spokane County Jail for residential burglary, obstructing law enforcement, and his outstanding warrants.
