Thousands of residents without power across Washington and north Idaho due to storms

SPOKANE, Wash. — Thousands of residents across Washington and north Idaho are without power this morning as winter storms have hit the area.

Power companies across the Inland Northwest, including Avista, Inland Power, Northern Lights and Kootenai Electric Cooperative have reported outages.

Avista has reported that 1,461 customers are currently without power. The areas affected include Saint Maries, Moscow, Palouse, Viola, Newport and Priest River area.

Earlier this morning, Avista reported that almost 800 customers in Saint Maries are without power. There is currently a crew on scene to investigate what caused the outage and to restore power to those affected.

Inland Power has reported that 1,858 people are without power this morning. The areas most affected include Bonner County, Stevens County and Spokane County.

Due to driving and conditions, the Inland Power offices will be closed on Jan. 9 but the team will be working remotely to answer questions regarding these outages.

Northern Lights has reported that over 4,100 customers in the Sandpoint and Priest River area are without power. Currently 1,600 people living along Priest Lake are without power. Also, 600 people living north of Sandpoint are out of power as well.

Additionally, Kootenai Electric Cooperative has reported that a few hundred people living in the Coeur d’Alene area are without power.
