Suspect dead, K9 injured after deputy-involved shooting in north Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – One person is dead and a K9 is injured following a deputy-involved shooting in north Spokane.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), deputies responded to the 6500 block of North Calispel on Jan. 30 for reports of a man threatening to kill his neighbor. SCSO said they responded to the same address for the same incident on Jan. 29.

On Jan. 29, SCSO developed probable cause to arrest the suspect, but he were was not cooperative. SCSO then submitted a charging request and cleared the scene.

On Jan. 30, SCSO said they received the same call of the suspect threatening to kill his neighbor. An additional charging request was made, and deputies developed probable cause to charge the suspect with felony harassment with threats to kill and second-degree assault.

SCSO issued a search warrant to arrest the suspect, making PA announcements, and hostage negotiators were called onto the scene.

SCSO said negotiators breached the front door after a long phone call with the suspect. According to SCSO, the suspect “ingressed” them, and shots were fired by SCSO.

SCSO said the suspect died, a K9 was injured and a deputy received minor injuries. The K9 is being treated at a veterinarian’s office now.

The Spokane Police Department and Washington State Patrol are investigating.

The Spokane Police Department confirmed with NonStop Local that the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is responding to the 6500 block of North Calispel Street for the shooting. Heavy law enforcement remains in the area.
