Suspect arrested for double homicide in northeast Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – A suspect has been arrested for double homicide in connection to the two people found dead in northeast Spokane last Friday.

Spokane Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) detectives arrested 25-year-old Brandon L. Kenny on Saturday, Dec. 16 with the help of SPD patrol officers, Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF) members, and Special Investigations Unit (SIU) detectives.

On Friday, Dec. 8 just after 11 p.m., SPD responded to reports of gunshots heard near East Cleveland Ave and N Cuba St in northeast Spokane. Officers arrived on the scene and found two victims dead. The Spokane County Medical Examiner has since identified the two victims as 37-year-old Colton Russell, and 23-year-old Kiara Morgan-Weiland.

The cause of their death has not been released at this time.

While this investigation remains ongoing, investigators believe the suspect and the victims knew each other and this incident was not random.

Kenny remains in the Spokane County Jail on two counts of first-degree murder, additional charges are possible.

Kenny has six felony convictions for crimes including criminal mischief with a deadly weapon, burglary, and theft.
