Spokane police seek help to identify armed robbery suspect

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Police Department (SPD) is looking for help to identify a male suspect who robbed a store in Spokane.

On March 13, at around 9:22 a.m., an unknown male entered a store in the 2500 block of North Division and stole a jump starter box.

The suspect fled the store with several store employees chasing him. The male then produced a handgun as he was running away from the employees.

The male then entered a getaway vehicle with a driver and fled the scene.

Police then responded to the scene and interviewed employees where the store provided security photos of the suspect.

A short time later, SPD located a vehicle matching the description of the robbery and stopped it in the area of Normandie and Buckeye.

Officers contacted the driver and after an investigation, developed probable cause to arrest him for the robbery.

Matthew A. Roberts a 39-year-old was booked into the Spokane County Jail for First Degree Robbery.

The getaway car was seized for a search warrant and the jump starter was recovered.

The male who displayed the handgun during the robbery is still outstanding.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 40s, about 6 feet tall with a medium build and last seen wearing a tan jacket, ball cap, hoodie and blue jeans.
