SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Police Department (SPD) arrested a man after he shot out large windows with a slingshot at a local business, causing $30,000 in damage.

The business on the 1100 block of North Maple Street reported the damage on May 22, around 10 a.m. after they noticed three large commercial windows had shattered from a small metal ball the night before.

The business reported that each window is valued at $10,000.

An employee at the business had a video of the incident that showed Robert Sherer, 53, shooting the metal ball into the windows around 9:30 p.m. on May 21.

The employee told SPD they knew the man in the video from previous interactions and knew where he was possibly living.

When police arrived at his apartment on the 1500 block of West Gardner Avenue, they began an investigation and developed probable cause to arrest him.

Officers applied for and were granted a search warrant for his apartment and found a slingshot and a matching metal ball to the one found at the business.

Sherer was booked into jail on first-degree malicious mischief as well as an unrelated protection order violation.

SPD says they are investigating a similar property damage incident near Monroe and Summit Boulevard that happened the same night.
