SPOKANE, Wash. – 16 parks across Spokane will be restored thanks to a $100,000 grant awarded by the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO).

The City of Spokane was the largest municipality awarded funds, with its application ranking 24th out of 157 applicants in RCO’s first Local Parks Maintenance grant program.

“This grant award affirms our need to improve neighborhood playgrounds, identified by the community as a tier one priority in our Master Plan,” said Garrett Jones, interim City administrator. “We continue to seek funding sources to meet those top needs, and hope to bring a proposed investment package for voters to consider in February that would fund additional neighborhood park investments in playgrounds, restrooms, sport courts, and safety.”

Repairs are expected to begin in 2024 and will include fixing broken or damaged park equipment, like slides and swings.
