SPOKANE, Wash.- Mayor Lisa Brown announced a press conference to address public safety in Spokane on Feb. 12.

The conference, which has been on the books since last week, happens to follow two separate uses of lethal force by the Spokane Police Department (SPD) this week.

It will feature Maggie Yates, the city’s deputy administrator, in addition to representatives from SPD and the fire department. The conference will announce new public safety measures taken by the city.

Brown’s office will share updates on the search for a new police chief for Spokane. Currently, the role is filled by interim Chief Justin Lundgren, who has occupied the position since late 2023.

Erin Hut, the director of communications for the city, described the next phase of the search for a police chief as including a committee process, which Yates will explain during the conference.

The conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Feb. 14.
