KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho – A Spokane man is in the Bonner County Jail after he stole a car and fled from Idaho law enforcement.

On the evening of Nov. 19, the Bonners County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) and Idaho State Police (ISP) were in an active pursuit of a stolen vehicle near Highway 95 and Granite Loop Cutoff.

ISP deployed spike strips, which caused the car to stop, allowing the suspect to flee on foot.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) was called to assist and establish a perimeter. A K9 track led law enforcement to Zachary J. Hawthorne, 37, from Spokane, where he was booked into the Bonner County Jail. His charges remain unknown at this time.

“The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is thankful for the great working relationship with neighboring agencies, and commends the Bonner County Sheriff’s Officer and Idaho State Police in their teamwork and for establishing a quick perimeter,” said Sheriff Robert Norris.
