Spokane man hospitalized on Wednesday after severe burns on his chest

SPOKANE, Wash. – A man was hospitalized yesterday after a fire was reported to the Spokane Fire Department at the Sylvan Place Apartments.

On March 13 at 10:35 a.m., the Spokane Fire Department responded to a call regarding a second-floor fire at the Sylvan Place Apartments at 2207 East Francis Avenue.

The 911 dispatcher informed firefighters that a male was causing a disturbance in his apartment and that neighbors could smell smoke, with smoke alarms being activated.

Firefighters requested police assistance and, upon arrival, staged for police presence as there were no visible signs of smoke or flames.

Officers from the Spokane Police Department entered the apartment, where they detained the man and handed him over to an ambulance.

The individual was taken to the hospital for treatment of his burns.

There’s no update from fire investigators regarding potential charges.

The Spokane Fire Department did confirm that the individual was undergoing a mental health crisis during the incident.

There were no other injuries reported, and damages were primarily limited to the items set on fire.
