SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man suspected of attempting to rape a woman, kidnapping her using the SUV in which she was sitting and crashing the vehicle.

Just after midnight on the morning of Feb. 11, law enforcement pulled over a man for a suspected DUI. He was driving with a 17-year-old girl. He was arrested for drunk driving and sent to Spokane County Jail.

Deputies left the minor in the car with the assurance from the man booked for the DUI that a person would come and pick up the minor and the vehicle.

An unidentified man who is about 6’ ft tall with long brunette hair pulled up to the SUV after law enforcement left the vehicle with the teenager inside.

The suspect attempted to rape her but was dissuaded due to passing cars, at which point he drove the vehicle, which he then crashed in a roll-over on North Wood Road.

The woman, who does not speak English and spoke with sheriff’s deputies via a translator, was found by police later that morning at the crash site around 6:30 am.

The teenager does not remember anything following the crash, but when she awoke the man who kidnapped her was gone.

Detective Tom Keys can be contacted at (509) 934-7831 or at mkeys@spokanesheriff.org with any information regarding the man suspected of the attempted rape and kidnapping.
