Spokane couple spends Valentine’s Day serving dinner

SPOKANE, Wash. – It’s pretty standard to take your date to a restaurant for Valentine’s Day dinner. Rather than going out to dinner, one local couple will be serving it.

Monica York and Daniel Gonzalez have been engaged since 2018. They own Kismet, a restaurant in Northeast Spokane.

Both York and Gonzalez have done pretty much every job that you can do in the restaurant industry without a special permit. They are going to be at work for roughly 15 hours on Valentine’s Day.

Since getting engaged they have bought a house together and opened their first restaurant. That was back in September of 2021 when there was still a mask mandate because of Covid.

Since then, they have worked long hours day and night to keep this restaurant afloat, and they will be working those long hours again on Valentine’s Day.

The question is, how will they celebrate Valentine’s Day if they have to work through all of it?

Their answer is pretty cute.

“Finish work,” said Gonzalez. “I have some surprises for Monica. Then we’ll probably go home and (hang out).”

If you have their number, don’t use it on Feb. 14. It’s safe to say they will probably be busy.
