SPOKANE, Wash. – Angler Dean Powell of Spokane set a new state sportfish record with his impressive catch on May 12, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) said in a release.
Powell reeled in a peamouth weighing 1.41 pounds while anchored in the Columbia River near the mouth of the Klickitat River.
This catch surpassed the previous record of 1.12 pounds, which was set in 2008.
Peamouth, also known as northwestern dace or peamouth chub, are freshwater fish noted for their ability to tolerate seawater mixed with fresh water.
Powell’s record-breaking fish measured 15 and 1/8 inches and was certified at the Southwest Region Headquarters in Ridgefield the day after it was caught, said the release.
