COEUR D’ALENE, Id. — There will be volunteers on Coeur d’Alene’s Tubbs Hill for Memorial Day, directing people away from closed trails.
Even though it’s a holiday, crews will be working on Phase 2 of a forest fuel reduction project on the south side of the hill.
Crews will be cutting and piling trees that are already on the ground. They will also bring down dead trees that pose a hazard.
The work is aimed at slowing the spread of any potential wildfire, protecting homes and infrastructure.
The project is a collaboration between the Kootenai County FireSmart Program, The city of Coeur d’Alene and Idaho Forest Management.
Along with volunteers helping to direct people there will also be signs indicating where the work is being done.
Phase one of the work was completed last year. In April, 500 new trees were planted on Tubbs Hill.
