SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass is closed in both directions Friday due to compact snow and ice on the roadway and multiple spinouts and collisions, transportation officials said.
Westbound traffic is closed beginning at milepost 106 in Ellensburg, with additional closures at Exit 85 in Cle Elum and Exit 70 in Easton.
Eastbound lanes are closed at milepost 34, about 18 miles west of the summit near North Bend.
Officials said the crashes and hazardous road conditions are expected to keep the pass closed for an extended period, likely lasting most of the day.
“This is some of the work still going on leading up to Snoqualmie Pass,” WSP Trooper Rick Johnson said, describing crews’ efforts to clear the roadway.
Drivers are urged to delay travel or seek alternate routes until conditions improve and crews can safely reopen the highway.
