VANCOUVER, Wash.-Six members of a Washington Department of Transportation work crew were hospitalized after a suspected drunk driver hit them on I-5 on Saturday, Jan. 20.

The maintenance team was part of a mobile operation to fix potholes in the area, according to WSDOT, when they were hit around 9:40 p.m.

The driver of a car hit a guardrail near the work crew and caused a chain-reaction crash by then hitting a WSDOT truck, which then hit another work truck.

Washington State Patrol Troopers arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI and vehicular assault. The six workers have since been released from the hospital, according to WSDOT.

The WSDOT is using the crash as a reminder for all drivers, posting on social media: “We’ve asked before, we’ll ask again and we’ll never stop asking for as long as we need to: Please do your part to keep road workers safe. They are counting on you to help them go home safely at the end of their shift.”
