COLFAX, Wash. – A man traveling eastbound on Sand Road died Monday evening after veering his car into a ditch on the opposite side of the road, according to the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO).

Tristan Ries, 26, of Moscow, was identified as the victim.

According to the sheriff’s office, Ries’s 2003 Subaru Forester rolled several times after going into the ditch before it came to a stop.

The WCSO said that the incident was caused by Ries failing to negotiate a corner, which in turn led him to lose control of the Subaru.

Additionally, the WSCO believes that Ries was not wearing his seatbelt at the time and was ejected from the car during the collision.

According to the WSCO, deputies and local emergency responders arrived at the scene around 9:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a single vehicle accident on Sand Road. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures on Ries, but due to the extent of his injuries, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The investigation is also reportedly ongoing, according to Whitman County Sheriff Brett J. Meyers.
