SPOKANE, Wash. — The woman found dead in a field Wednesday evening in northeast Spokane had injuries that appeared to be caused by the dog found with her at the scene, according to a release from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office stressed that the only “obvious” wounds appeared to be caused by the dog, but that the county medical examiner’s office will need to do additional tests before confirming her cause of death.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to reports of a dead woman on East Buckey Wednesday shortly after 4 p.m. Roads were closed for hours as detectives investigated.

Deputies eventually got the dog to move away from the woman. Medical personnel to check for signs of life, but she died at the scene.
