SPOKANE, Wash. — Two students from Shadle Park High School were injured Thursday morning following a fight that escalated into a stabbing in the women’s bathroom.

According to the Spokane Police Department, the stabbing was reported to officers around 8 a.m. and a female student was quickly arrested and booked into juvenile detention.

Allegedly four female students were in a bathroom where a fight occurred. Spokane police mention that this was a “targeted attack” as all students knew each other.

Lucas Reeves, an 11th grader at Shadle Park mentions that a video of the fight was circulating on social media, “all of a sudden instagram, Snapchat, my friend Skyler’s phone… it [was] everywhere, two chicks got stabbed by one chick and it was a big brawl like a riot.”

Another junior at Shadle Park even mentioned “all my friends and stuff were like showing videos and stuff there’s like a video of the fight.”

The fight escalated into a stabbing resulting in one student being taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries and another receiving minor injuries.

Shadle Park High School sent an email to parents regarding the incident stating: “The school entered Secure and Teach this morning when there was an altercation between two students. Campus safety, law enforcement and emergency services responded quickly to address the situation. No other students or staff were impacted.”

During a press conference held by Spokane Public School, they say that Spokane police arrived on scene within minutes after their call. The student was quickly detained and was no longer a threat to any other students.

While the school was under secure and teaching as law enforcement was on scene, they resumed normal operations around 10 a.m.

Sandra Jarrard with Spokane Public Schools says, “we have extra counseling services available for students or families who need to go… It’s very important for us to make sure our students feel safe in our schools and to that point, I’m sure there are some parents right now who must feel concerned about their [child’s] safety at any school.”

Many parents and students may feel unsafe going into their schools based on recent events happening around the country. But Jarrard wants to send a message to families conveying that “we’ve increased our campus safety specialists across the district… We are building a culture of safety in all of our schools. So safety is everybody’s responsibility.”

More information regarding this incident will be released by the Spokane Police Department and Spokane Public Schools at a later time.
