Security response at main gate of Fairchild Air Force Base prompts shelter-in-place

FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. — The Wing Commander at Fairchild Air Force Base has issued a shelter-in-place for areas near the base’s main gate.

Residents living on Fairchild AFB were notified of this shelter-in-place around 7:15 a.m. Friday morning. If you are living near Lilac Village and C.D.C, the commander has directed them to shelter in place until further notice.

A statement from the Public Affairs Officer states that “There is a security response at our main gate. Emergency personnel responded to the area and are conducting response procedures, which include a 1,000 ft cordon. Areas within the cordon are directed to shelter in place until the incident is cleared.”

If you are in the vicinity, you are urged to remain indoors or go to the nearest building until further notice.

It’s unclear at this time what has prompted the shelter-in-place but as of now the main gate is closed to all traffic, including pedestrians.

Traffic is being re-routed to the Rambo Gate while this closure is in place. Also, the “T” and “R” gates will remain open past their normal hours to help with traffic flow coming onto base.

More information will be released by Fairchild Air Force Base once the response is concluded.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. Check back for updates.
