REPORT: WSU Football adding Texas Tech to 2024 schedule

PULLMAN, Wash. – With the collapse of the current Pac-12 Conference, Washington State is still ironing out its full football schedule for the 2024 season. On Wednesday, it was reported by multiple sources that the Cougars are closing in on an agreement with Texas Tech to play the Red Raiders next season.

Texas Tech was supposed to play Oregon next season, but with the Ducks recently scheduling Oregon State, the Red Raiders would be coming to Pullman instead. The news was first reported by John Canzano and backed up by a report from the Lubbock Avalanche Journal, but the report has yet to be confirmed by either school.

If the deal is finalized, the game would be slated to take place on Sept. 7, the original date set for the Cougars to take on San Diego State. Canzano suggests that the San Diego State game would be rescheduled for a different date in the season.

The potential agreement would fill the 12th and final vacant spot in the Cougar schedule. The revised slate would include matchups against six Mountain West Conference teams (undetermined what teams from the MWC) plus the two Mountain West teams that were already on the schedule, including San Diego State and San Jose State. The other three games set in stone are Portland State, Oregon State, and Washington.

Last week, it was announced that Washington State and Oregon State football programs would be joining forces with the Mountain West Conference. It was decided that WSU and OSU will play six Mountain West Conference teams next season.
